Does anyone have any information or recomendations of operators that use computers and steel tanks? Of course, this means that all divers need to be on the same system and have at least an advanced PATI rating. We will be visiting San Pedro the latter portion of January and would like to hook up with an operator that offers more advanced dives with the proper equipment

Why do you want steel tanks? I use steel for cold water diving but aluminum works fine for warm water.
Everyone (or almost) uses computers these days. If you are concerned about surface intervals -- the dive sites are so close to shore that you come back for your surface intervals (most dives)

you might find someone with steels, but for the most part everyone uses aluminum. it is an emerging nation and the new steels are quite pricey. you can rent a computer at most dive shops, but keep in mind you will have a divemaster babysitting you on every bubble safari and will tell you when its time to go.

for advanced diving the blue hole is exactly that (i've broken the 130' rule every time i dive it). if you consider a dive advance by the depth you reach, quite a few are on fairly deep walls, 90-110'. talk to the DMs for thier favorite advanced dive and see if they are available to take you

Bryan,
Our dive shop has steel and aluminum tanks available and we do offer advanced dives with computers. We have boats equipped with oxygen, medic first aid, fire extingushers etc. On our deep dives we hang auxillary tanks for the decompression stops. We have numerous caverns and wall dives. Why don't you email me direct at [email protected] and tell me what types of dives your interested and I can give you more information.

Dawn,
I have a question: Can you access the caverns under Caye Caulker? Nobody I talked to when I was living down there seemed to have any information about them, other than they had been closed years before...

Frank Bounting extensively researched the cave system for National Geographic when he owned and ran Belize Diving Services. He and his wife moved away from the island and sold the business. The discussions I had with him about the cave system were very interesting. I am not certain if there are any remaining dive operators qualified or interested in diving this sytem now. I am doubtful as it was very intense.
