Are there well-stocked grocery stores in San Pedro Town for breakfast items (cereal, juices, bread, coffee, fruit, etc.) and lunch items (sandwich meats, bread, pop, beer, wine, chips, etc.)? How do the prices compare with US prices?

In the spirit of staying informational:

About 30-50% higher than stateside. Distilled spirits up, up ,up. (But you didn't ask)

Yer welcome.

Yes, you can get most items found in US stores here. Island Supermarket comes to mind. The prices are higher here, but that is understandable. Shipping, and handeling cost money. This is not a cheap place to live.

you'd do best to go to "individuals" who have fruit and vegetable stands....as far as "one stop shopping", that would be a bit pricey. The "Island Supermarket" around the Boca del Rio area is cheaper![than the bigger market]

And don't go down there with the idea that fruits and vegetables look the same as here, either...unless you like bananas! That's the sorriest-looking flora you ever laid eyes on, but it doesn't taste as bad as it looks. The best veggies are at the Island Market, but they ain't cheap...Jesse is right!

re the rickcheri message: The northern store, "San Pedro Supermarket", located by the San Juan statue (not Boca Del Rio) is NOT any cheaper than Island Supermarket which is the big store south of town. In fact the owner/operators are relatives and purchase together.

We checked out the grocery stores and produce stand, just to see the prices mainly.
I suggest you patronize the local small restaurants for meals, and basically you will save money, and the food is excellent.

Any suggestions as to the best restaurants (as in best value for your $, not necessarily the fanciest)? I heard the Jamaican Jerk was good...any other recommendations by regular patrons?

Consider Chloes' advice! It is cheaper to eat out . The most expensive meal we ate was $25 Bz. That's $12.50 US! I challenge you to find a meal of similar Quality/Quantity in the Houston/DFW area for less than 2x that.
Also, drinking out is cheap too! We found the beer to be close to what we pay here and the mixed drinks were closer to 1/2 what we are used to here. If you really want to buy expensive, buy a beer at the DFW airport!!
Important.. you gotta like seafood!
