We will be visiting San Pedro and area for the first time next week. I have been getting mixed messages from previous visitors regarding ATM access so I would like to try my luck here.
In other travels to S.E. Asia and all over Mexico I have been able to use ATM's for withdrawals with no trouble at all. But I hear that the ATM's in San Pedro are not that dependable. What has been the experience of other Canadians on this board? BTW, I use Scotiabank interac with "Plus". Does anyone know if I have trouble with ATM's, can I access my accounts through the Scotiabank tellers in San Pedro?
Thank you and looking forward to being there!

I've had no trouble at all at the Belize Bank, on northern end of Front Street, near the Sunbreeze Suites.

Belize Bank also has ATMS at Richie's Supermarket and the Island Supermarket, in the event you are not in town.

There is a Scotiabank right outside the SP airstrip. Why don't you have your local branch contact them to verify that you will have no problems?

I use my Canadian (Credit Union) ATM card with the plus. I have no problems at Atlantic Bank, Belize Bank or Scotia Bank or at Island Super market (have not tried the others) However sometimes ATMs do go down especially during long weekends but this has nothing to do with your card.
You should have no troubles at all. BUT do check with your bank to see what your international withdrawal fee with be and realize the exchange rate fluctuates each day.
Have fun!

Thank you for your responses, this has been very helpful!
BTW, I did inquire at my local Scotiabank branch and they informed me that the two locations are affiliated by name only. Hmmm.

Lars - the info you received is incorrect. They are affiliated more than by just name - it is the same bank. I've send donations (school supplies) from Canada to San Pedro via inter-bank mail and it's the same process as it is sending from one branch to another branch within my province.

I've used debit and credit cards from various UK and US banks in Scotia Bank's ATM, totally without problem. You'll get your cash in Bz$ only of course, and you may find the withdrawal limit imposed by your home bank may be more restrictive than that imposed by Scotia here.
