Marty Online happy
I understand that the duty free shop at ARRIVALS at the international
airport is reopening, so folks coming into Belize can stock up on
booze and cigs at duty-free prices.

I am confused. Will this allow people arriving in Belize on an International flight to purchase duty free items upon their arrival?

My experience with duty free has always been that you must be DEPARTING the country in which you are purchasing something in duty free .... someone please help me understand this.

Yes, you can purchase liquor on arrival, but it'll be a bit more $ with duty than purchasing on departure, but still lots less than you can buy the same for elsehere.

So you can actually buy from duty free when your flight lands in BZE and then take your purchases into the country with you? Wow...guess I can stop telling people that if they don't want to drink rum or the local beer, they should pick up liquor before they leave on their International flight.

There aren't "duty-free" shops on arrivals to US international airports are there? At least I haven't seen them...Mexico either...

I suppose the devil is in the details. Depends on how much they sell it for and what if any limitations on quantity there is. Heck if there are no limitations and price is good there will be a constant stream of local bar and restaurant owners as customers as well. Wonder who has the concession/monopoly on this deal?

It's always made more sense to buy your duty free on arrival, so the airlines don't have to waste precious fuel flying booze around the world. But it's often been tried and I don't think has ever survived long.

Well, I'm guessing that you must arrive on an International flight in order to purchase...not just hop a Tropic flight over and pick up your goodies.

I'm sure there will be limitations too.....weird concept to me...
