There are 1 and 1/2 golf courses in Belize. If you golf, Caye Chapel is pretty much your only option.

Caye Chapel - 7200 yrds, par 72, links style
Roaring Creek - 9 holes course/cow pasture/flood plain
or
Unitedville - 1 hole, par 3, private course
Ambergris Caye - driving range, floater golf balls only.

I have never been to the Westside of the Island. My wife did and she bought property there. So I am not to familiar with the ecology of the area. So what you are saying is that it would be a bad idea and also not logical from an investors standpoint.

So on the inside of th Island. Cause I am on the outside of the island on the Caribbean Side (ocean front). Hopefully we get power when I start to build. What a way to get off topic lol. So is caye Chapel worth the amount they charge. Golf people please compare the price of Caye Chapel to a Good course that you have played before.

I have played twice. Its been two years since last time. But its a good course. I was told it was rated no.3 in the carib. Its tough from the tip when you are into the wind. Last I looked it was $150.00 to play, thats 9 to 4 pm, all you can play. Take your own clubs, there house clubs were not very good the one time I used them.

I was hoping someone would bring this up. I never caught the golfing bug (thankfully) but I like to think that with everything else to do on the island, golf would be the last thing you'd go to AC for. I don't understand how it would benefit "everyone" on the island? I'm sure that with tons of money someone could (and probably will unfortunately) manufacture a golf course on the island but on such a small island is that the best use of the land and water?

Did anybody say this development would be occuring in this lifetime?

It will take an INCREDIBLE amount of money to build and maintain a golf course on the west coast of Ambergris Caye - in fact anywhere on Ambergris Caye.

I haven't seen an approval for a development that includes a golf course being issued on Ambergris Caye... yet.

Chances are any tall buildings being built on west Ambergris will be 3 or 4 storeys tall. Most development built to date in that area is 2 storeys tall.

The electricity has run across the lagoon but it will take considerable funding to run it up the coast. Currently the power plan is sufficient to service the existing structures and the area directly opposite the San Pedro town core.

Went bonefishing instead. Next time I'm invited I'll turn it down to go diving, or sailing. It's not just that Belize and golf shouldn't go together; the runoff from a golf course cannot be good for the reef.

Besides, seeing how difficult it is for foreign interests to build or develop, a project of the scale mentioned would be next to impossible. Thank goodness. I like the barriers that were put into place with independence. Belize gets to do things their way, not the US way or the British way or the *shudder* Canadian way.

Just kidding, eh!

I am an avid golfer and play 20-30 rounds a year. When I was on AC a few years ago I did absolutly nothing as I wanted to do was relax on the beach. Next time I come I will be bringing my golf clubs and playing Caye Chapel as I atleast play one round of golf on my vacations (Wife hates it)lol. What is bonefishing to get of topic for a sec

If I were only going down for one or two weeks, I probably would not put golf on the agenda. We own a condo on the Island and spend 2-3 months at a time. Therefore, I will usually play Caye Chapel at least once or twice when we're there. I try to get about 40 rounds a year in at home. If you are an avid golfer like I am, I think Caye Chapel is worth the money, albeit a very challenging course.

It's very challenging in as much as the fairways are narrow and every hole has OB's left and right. It definitely lends itself to course management.
I don't know what to compare Caye Chapel with. Lot's of water and the wind can play heck sometimes.
What is most unusual is when you check in at the club house you have to sign a waiver because of the crocks! If you hit a ball in the water and it's close enough to retrieve, think twice.....your golfing partner may have to play the rest of the course by himself :-)

You know, I never saw one croc when I was there either time. But I am sure they are there. You will enjoy the course and it is a @itch when the wind is in your face. From the tips I would say its rated about a 74 and a slope of 120.

I live on AC and am very grateful for the Golf Course at Caye Chapel. Its a great course and it can be extremely challenging. In the dry season it gets a little crunchy though.

There has been talk of a Golf course on Ambergris Caye since Tiger Woods visited 3 or 4 years ago.

The area on the West coast or lagoon is has plenty of land for a golf course and a good portion of it is fairly high land. The developer has the land to do it and from what I understand the resort they are speaking with is the Ritz.

Will it happen I don't know and certainly until it is built and I have played a round I will be skeptical. Most people don't associate Belize with Golf but I do. When you only have one course to play it can get old after a few hundred rounds.

As for Caye Chapel being expensive I would disagree. You can show up in the morning and play three rounds before the end of the day along with lunch a few drinks and a swim in the pool. Oh and by the way I have never waited on the T for anyone. You can't do that in the US or Canada on a Saturday even at the country club!

Hit the ball straight.

As I am told, Caye Chapel was built a number of years ago at a cost of $25,000,000.00 - total outlay including island. If it remains the only golf course in the area, away from everything else then its not harming anything. It is also self generating with respect to power (deisel) and saltwater desalination. Let it stand as a place for those to enjoy that want a little more
while on vacation.

The villas they built to rent were a hell of a deal. $1000.00 a day but that was all the golf w/carts and housing for as many as 3 couples. Hell, play golf in Cabo and you pay $250.00 a round. Pebble Beach is $500.00 Now I see they are trying to sell the villas @ 2.5 to 3.5 Million ea.

Roaring River Golf Course is a very pleasant, beautiful course located several miles from Belmopan...south at the sign in the Village of Roaring Creek. It has a clubhouse and a new, spiffy restaurant. Tuesday, a flock of local golfers show-up and play until exhaustion. Speaking of which...as the sun is setting, the golf course plays host to one of the greatest displays of bird-life, in Belize. Lockers are available to rent on a yearly basis...just don't creep around locker 4!!!!

I played the course 2 days ago and thought it was nice, the greens won't hold because of the lack of water on them.As we flew off the island at 4:30 we saw all the sprinklers had been turned on, probably due to my 8 inch divots. The rental clubs are very average, and all the drivers have flex shafts, if your swing speed is over 85 you can't use them, you will block it right everytime, so I teed off with a 6 iron, saved many strokes. You will pay $150 greens fee and about $ 55 for your flight( if you have the golf course book it for you ) and then $15 for a dozen used, but nice golf balls and a few bucks for tees and drinks.Lunch is very nice @ $ 15 and I was provided towels and allowed to use the clubhouse for a quick shower after the round, but please remember, the men's locker room is on the left...yes I did, thank God no women walked in on me while I was showering.I left with a bill for $ 237 US, only because the men who ask me into their foursome insisted we play the front 9 for lunch and I birdied # 9, a long par five, to win the frontside, I think the juice is worth the squeeze, really nice island to visit, but remember, men's locker room to the left
