Can anyone recommend a good person/company that can come by and take a look at our laptop ?
I installed a virus last night and everything is bogged down with browser malfunctions now.
Hoping to find someone inexpensive and able to come by here to check it out...wondering about Extreme Geeks that I see in the paper..

You might try using someone else's computer to download a copy of Stinger (google it).....then running it offline....might save you some money.

I could fix it for you but can't do it on site. I have another job and only repair computers part time now ( used to have a shop in town). Do you know the name of the virus? if you don't it makes it hard to kill. Also a lot of "repair guys" will fix it by format and reinstall. not good if you have a lot of data.
Let me know if you want me to take a look. I charge $75 only if i remove the virus.

The classical "ocean dip" will wash virus from your computer... and then don't install viruses on your computer again, that should do it!

Ive run avast (bootup scan as well as regular), trend micro online scanner and hijack this...I think the virus itself is gone (though it's likely waiting somewhere to jump out again) but the browsers are incredibly slow and IE refuses to open hotmail and some other sites and unfortunately with vista you cant just get rid of IE and reinstall it seems
Yep Tracker, there is tons of stuff that we dont want to lose on here so reformatting would not be preferred.

if you think the virus has been removed, press F8 while on boot up and select restore vista from the menu. it should reset the computer to a point before the virus attack, you will not loose any data. if it works deleate all your temp files as that is where the virus might be hiding. if all is working ok create a new restore point.
