there is quite a bit of info along those lines at: //AmbergrisCaye.com/fishing/

click on the tarpon section, several varieties have their own subsections with detailed info on what to catch, how to catch, etc.

it would be nice to get other opinions too though, Edd? Whatcha think?

I flyfish some, but it's mostly a novelty technique to me (apologies to all hard-core fly-types). But if I were headed to AC and Hell-bent on fly fishing, I'd run up to El Pescador and buy some local flys from their tackle shop. While I was there I'd either book a trip with one of their guides (expensive) or, at the least, get as much info as possible from them. Good Luck!

While you are at El Pescador buying flys try to arrange to fish with Nesto Gomez -- the best tarpon and bonefish flyfisherman! He works out of El Pescador.

Wendy's right. I haven't personally fished with Nesto, but I got his name from Mark Sosin (a fly fishing Guru) some time ago when I was obsessed with catching a big tarpon on ultralight tackle.Mark has apparently filmed several TV shows with Nesto, and recommends him highly.

Fished AC in July for tarpon and bones w George Bradley. Used #6-#8 brown charlie's and same sized pink gotcha. Used Orange/grizzly Stu Apte tarpon fly on 3/0 Owner aki fly hook. Do a search using word fly and you might find my complete report in the archives. We had a lot of fun. Caught lots of bones, jumped several tarpon, caught one, and caught a large horse-eyed jack. Bring flourocarbon tippet in 8# and 10# for bones, and 60 or 100# for tarpon. Tie good knots.

Also you might check out Virtural Flyfisher Site under Mexico Central America Region for a complete trip report with lots of detail. The site has a lot of tips on rigging, knots, casting and tackle. If you go let me know how you do.

I recently caught about 3 dozen bonefish on literally two flies. Both #8 gold gotchas. The only reason I needed the second was a barracuda chewed up the first. Enjoy!
