Don't miss breakfast at Estel's, lunch at Fido's(great night life with live music), dinner at Elvi's. I guess Estel's is my favorite of the three. I'm from Mississippi, and she serves GRITS!!! I ate there often while on the island. Grits, eggs, bacon and fry-jacks, along with the best orange juice I've ever had, is a great way to start the day. She also has a killer bacon cheese burger. Do a snorkle trip to shark-ray alley, and a parasail from Fido's dock. Get a golf cart, and see the island on your first day, just to get your bearings. There are lots of things to do, just be sure to keep some Belikin on hand, and get in alot of RELAXING!!

Don''t miss a great meal with the Golden Girls of Hideaway Hotel! Then a "Belizean Mama" with Margie and Ada at Coconuts Beach Bar. Stop by and see Miguel at the Toucan Bar at Royal Palm.
In town, be sure to try a meal at Jambels Jerk... fantastic food!
Also be sure to go north to Popi's place, by Seven Seas... a great meal by some great folks!

Thank You for responding!
I have checked online and there are many great ideas, but there are always those hidden places that you dont know about that only experienced Belizians know about. I just want to make the most of my trip.
So what exactly is Belikin?
I have been told to expect snakes that chase you and spiders and funky bugs that will freak me out? What is that all about?
I also am interested in the crime rate any facts you might know about that I should be aware of?
Two more weeks till Paradise, cant wait!!!

Belikin is the local beer, and the regular is very good, premium not so good. Saw no snakes, spiders or funky bugs on my trip. Jesse is right about Jambels Jerk. Awesome!

There are snakes on the mainland, extremely dangerous...they're really fast, really poisinous, and like to swim. But I don't think there are any on the keys.

Originally called Fer-de-Lance. Saw one in Monkey River and 2 scorpions. The critters are around, but usually people don't get to see them. I wouldn't worry too much. Just look in your shoes before putting them on.
Have fun!

Just got back last night from a great 8 days.
DO: Relax, Belikin, Estel's for breakfast, relax, Elvi's is always good, relax. Meet some local people one to one, they're fantastic (and I'm a cynic, so that means something). Keep a happy face (isn't hard there) and it comes back tenfold. Try The Reef. Doesn't look like much, but the food is extremely good. Smile and say hello to the kids on their way to school. Get a doggy bag from a restaurant, and actually give it to a dog on the beach. Hustler Tours is good, first rate. Do the shark-ray off Caye Caulker (better). Buy a cup of coffee for some of the workers. The street vendors off the square are cheap and super food. Coca-Cola tastes better, and stick in a wedge of lime.

DON'T: Worry, be happy. I see more ugly bugs and snakes in my yard than you will probably see on the island.

Enough generalities, I'll post a trip report in a few days.

Been there, done that, the washing machine ate the T-shirt
