We're coming to Ambergris for the first time at the end of January. A few people have told me that sandflies can be a real nuisance. Is this true? If so, what should we do to protect ourselves?

Sandflies are a real problem in several areas of Belize, but they are in my experience not much of a concern on Ambergris Caye.

Lan! What type of Sandflies are we talking about? The tiny type like on Roatan that is called Flying Teeth and bite the sh.... out of you but you can barly see them and the next day you are itchy and look like you got the chicken pox? Or the big black type that looks like a horse flie and when it bites it hurts? I hate the tiny flying teeth. They suck in more than one way.
