Can anyone tell me about the Spindrift on Ambergis and the Trends on Caulker. Just a buddy and myself, looking to do a little diving and relaxing. Girlfriends are not going, so they don't have to be 5-Star resorts. Just clean, comfortable, with a courteous staff. Any other ideas or feedback would be appreciated. Looking at travelling end of March or Frist part of April. We have been diving in Cozumel (too many times to count), Bonaire, USVI, Blackbeards (camping on the sea),Hawaii, but never Belize. Thanks.

No, I can't--haven't stayed there, but it seems the locals favorite is Ruby's. Have you checked that?

I've stayed at Rubies also... beds weren't that great - but hey it was only $15 a night with a shared bath. Another alternative is the San Pedrano. I stayed there on the last trip, it was much nicer that Rubies and the beds were very comfortable for about $5 more than Rubies.

Anyone ever heard of the Blue Tang Inn? If so, is it nice?

Blue Tang is the new name of Rock's Inn, right? This is a place that has long cried out for better management, and almost anything would be an improvement.

As to Trends on Caulker, depends on which Trends you mean. The Trends Beach Hotel at the main pier is a couple of years old and is a good value at around US$30 a night -- small rooms but clean and neat and in a good location on the water (though busy with all the traffic at the pier.) The original Trends is cheaper but not on the water.

Spindrift is a hulking concrete hotel in the middle of San Pedro Town, on the water. Variety of rooms, none fancy, but I kinda like the place. As others have said, in the budget category Ruby's is the clear popular winner, but Spindrift isn't a bad choice in the low moderate category.
