i remember seeing this a few years ago. very interesting.

The Master Plan for Ambergris Caye,....Its a wonderful thing, cost a lot to make, had a ton of thought put in it by some very smart people and seems a solution to lots and lots of problems, so why if its been around since the 90's hasn't it been put into effect.

The legislation process is lengthy and costly. Without a full team constantly pushing the bill forward nothing gets accomplished.

As in most cases it boils down to lack of financing and burning apathy.

The big push for the master plan this time might actually get somewhere as there are some key people pushing it that have managed to work on successful legislation in the past.

When I was on our town board, we drafted a comprehensive plan, same thing as this master plan. Then the new board that came in 4 years later drafted a comp plan of their own. And 4 years after that, another one was written. And so on.

Master plans incorrectly presume that succeeding regimes will abide by the decisions made in the past. They are essentially make-work for newly elected gung ho citizens.

skippy, that's good insight. however, at quick glance, the shame is it looks like an intellectually sound plan, with AC's (and its inhabitants) best, long term interest in mind. someone really put some thought into it.

all of page one (up to the map) seems a very sound plan. oh well.

amanda, i hope you're right, that with renewed interest in controlled/planned development and (potential) backing by the ACCSD and its (potential) funding, hopefully this plan might get a second chance at life.
