Inaugural ceremonies were held today for the refurbished and upgraded
Dangriga airstrip. The airstrip now boasts a hot mix surface, new lightning,
and modern safety features. Minister of Civil Aviation Manuel Heredia discussed
the upgrade.
Hon. Manuel Heredia, Minister of Civil Aviation
“The project came about because of the fact that the airstrip was
so deteriorated. It was built, shortly before election it was redone but in
a very short time I think the job that was done was very poor so we saw the
need to rehabilitate the airstrip and with help from the Cocesna group we managed
to get $300,000 from them and $50,000 from our own resources and a $100,000
from the Government of Belize which brought the total cost to $450,000 which
to me is extremely reasonable for the amount of work that was done. But it is
our intent and we are putting every effort to make sure that not only Dangriga
but all the airstrips in Belize City and the other districts are rehabilitated.”
The airstrip was renovated and refurbished at a cost of four hundred
and fifty two thousand Belize dollars by Albert Reimer’s Valley Ranch
Enterprise Ltd. It is expected that the airstrip will not need any major upgrading
for the next 10 to 15 years.
