Hi - I just lost my job and instead of crying, thought I needed to return to AC for a bit - I have perused various travel and airline sites, and can't find any great deals (nothing under $700) - does anyone know of any? I am truly very sad but I know what would make me happy! If you know of any deals, (I live in Tampa but don't hold that against me), I'd love to know - thanks! Susie

Been looking the last few weeks for a reasonable fare from NYC and they are all over $600. Don't understand since it is the low season but the tickets are higher than the high season. Don't make no sense.

I have noticed, and been wondering about, the same thing.

The cheapest way this month seems to be a round trip to Cancun and a Maya flight from Cancun to Belize.... at least from here in Vegas.

Next month though when Maya raises their Cancun rates, that won't apply.

Round trip to Cancun, then the bus to chet, ferry to Sanpedro, still the cheapest.

You could try Tampa to Cancun (Jetblue @ $333/American $387 via Expedia) and then the new Maya flight from Cancun to Belize that is on special during July for $199.

How about a tramp freighter from Tampa to Belize City? Stuff has to get here somehow. Yes?????

If you fly into cancun you can catch an airconditioned bus to Chetumal which is on the border with Belize, it costs about 21 or 22 US dollars one way, then you have to get to Corazal town on the belize side and you can either fly from there or take a water taxi. Its not a difficult trip and will take you about 8 to 9 hours from Cancun to Sanpedro if you time your transportation right.

I was just remembering the Indiana Jones movie where they were escaping on a tramp freighter. Really! HE HE

In all seriousness, I think you can pay and travel on freighters for a substantial savings. Its easier when you live in city where it embarks. Just a bit longer and if time is not an issue, which it seems its not, then why not?

The whole idea of flying into Cancun and then taking a Maya flight seems about the same $ as just flying into Belize (from Trampa) - actually Champion, I think that's what I will call it - it IS full of garbage!! Funny!!

Not sure about Tampa, but from Vegas right now, the Cancun route is about $200 cheaper. Once the Maya special ends, that value goes away.

Is the Maya flight $199 RT? And this price is over at the end of July? Then there still is the way b/w BC and SP - looks like I'll be experiencing the water taxi for the first time - everything is fun the first time, right? Are there flights b/w Corozal and AC - or do all flights landing in SP come from BC? Thanks all for the ideas again!

Thanks for the nice words... Strange - BZE-MIA is $220 and MIA-BZE is $303 (on AA - I did know about that special actually but thanks Tim). Those pricesetters have their methods - then they also hit you up for at least $50 more if it's not 2 weeks in advance. I have to think about it-- you only live once and I have 110% confidence in getting a new job sooner than you'd think. I better make up my mind soon!

susie, I'm with you friend. You hold on and things will happen for you. A trip to AC will certainly help the attitude and hey it's a perfect time for a vacation!

Sorry Susie - I was hit last August (after 27 years of service) - know exactly where you are at. I also know that AC is a great way to heal, so to speak. That's why I'll be there in July again.

As for the new job - hang in there. It's been almost a year for me, but I still have hope.

My girlfriends from Tampa applied for an American Airlines Credit Card and used the award miles for the trip to visit me in A/C (then later canceled the card).... I'm pretty sure that the deal is still available

I figure the stress I have endured for a over a year deserves another trip (I can rationalize anything) - too bad Rich won't be here with his jumpers!! I am not sure if goint to Sp would be foolish (I do have some extra $ and have ALWAYS found a job immediately) but maybe I am not being realizstic with the economy.
