T&C belongs to the British Overseas Territory and is not independent. It is under the sovereignty of the United Kingdom. Belize, being independent, can “thumb their nose” at the UK, of course financial aid and military support could quickly go away.

Reports indicate that T&C has had political difficulties for the past 8 or 9 years, with high level corruption accusations surfacing last year.

I went to the Turks and Caicos first before settling in Belize.
I got a work permit and was setting up a dive shop on South Caicos. They got oneloto problems over there. It surely would have been my crashandburn/demise had I not at the last min. changed the plan and moved to Belize.
The word they use for outsiders in Turks And Caicos is 'nonbelonger', crack is rampart, thievery unbelievable and the Haitian immigrant problem overwhelming.The country has a long history of white people dumping on them and as a result hatred and distrust of whites (I'm a white guy).I got my work permit in 5 min. for $1500 at the commissioners office.they guaranteed me any permit or permission I needed ,just ask(and pay cash)
Belize is Heaven, just thinking about the Caicos makes me appreciate living here so much more.
