Hi all,

I have a friend - a local - who was arrested the other night for having a machete sitting on the front seat of his golf cart...not being handled. He was charged a $450 fine! We find this confusing since we regularly see people carrying machetes on the island. Does anyone know what the real law is on this? He feels strongly that he is being unfairly treated and wants to do something about it if that is the case. Any info would be helpful.

If he was going from home to work or back then the machete is justified as a tool. If he was cruising around with it it becomes a weapon.

Hire a lawyer. A message board is no place to be looking for reliable legal advice.

I seem to recall that there is a specific act regarding knives.

What a hoot. did he pay the fine directly to the PC ;-)

I can tell you the law and it is, You can not carry one after 6pm. I was told this a few years ago while we lived there.
