We are leaving on Saturday and we will need to rent a couple of cell phones.

I am sure my son's will want to do things without me, and vise versa, and my son's like to be able to keep in touch. We will not be calling anyone at home and just each other and
maybe place in AC.

Part of our trip will be in AC and so where can we rent cell phones? How much should it cost us?

Thanks,
Sindy

The last time I had checked renting a phone costs around $9 per day per phone plus usage.

You can buy a sim card (if your cellphone can take one) for $50 each which includes $10 credit. Then top up your credit whenever necessary.

Any unlocked phone from the USA/Canada will work here. Just buy a local SIM card. By far the cheapest and best option.

should clarify... any unlocked GSM phone, so one from TMobile or AT&T would work with a local SIM card. Check before you leave that it is in fact unlocked.

If you have a CDMA phone (Verizon, Sprint, Virgin, etc), then you can't buy a local SIM card. Your phone will work if you have it set to roam internationally, but if you use it, it will be expensive.

rent at BZE at Belize Telecom out of the terminal across the parking lot by the rental cars. 5 US per day... takes about 5 minutes.

To be specific, you need a phone that operates on the GSM1900 frequency.

"Today, most telephones support multiple bands as used in different countries. These are typically referred to as multi-band phones. Dual-band phones can cover GSM networks in pairs such as 900 and 1800 MHz frequencies (Europe, Asia, Australia and Brazil) or 850 and 1900 (North America and Brazil). European tri-band phones typically cover the 900, 1800 and 1900 bands giving good coverage in Europe and allowing limited use in North America, while North American tri-band phones utilize 850, 1800 and 1900 for widespread North American service but limited worldwide use. A new addition has been the quad-band phone, supporting all four major GSM bands, allowing for global use."
