Staying at Portofino. Is traveling via bicycle for the week a viable option?
Where the road ends up north, I assume you take the beach the rest of the way up to Portofino. Is the sand passable on bike?

If you're healthy it's no problem. Just take lots of water for the trip. It's 6 miles from town to the resort.

I've done it several times, but I don't know about doing it every day. Wouldn't be much fun after dark.

I live on the beach about a half mile North of Portofino and about 20 guys on bikes come by every morning that are coming from town to work on construction projects even further north. They have blazed a nice beach path packing the sand. They seem to take the beach all the way regardless of road options. Its a great ride but for the physically fit.It takes me two hours plus to town but these guys are doing in in 30 to 45 min.
Its a great idea just heads up on the hot and rough ride.

Thanks for the info. Other than biking and gas carts, what other methods of transport are up that way?

Island ferry is the thing . comes by every other hour during the day and every hour at night. Its really the way to go.
Dock to Dock, you can go to town in 20 min.

Portofino run their own boats to and from town at (I believe) irregular intervals.
