Check Hyde. Some places will pick up at your front door and deliver to your front door here in Belize. Other places will do port to port shipping so getting it to/from the port will need extra arrangements. There are a lot of options out there so search around. If you're moving down, you could always cruise down and get off the ship in Belize City. If you're just looking to ship clothes and books you might be able to fit this all in a few suitcases. Cruise ships have higher luggage weight requirements than planes. The downside, it's only one way. Just my .02

Depending on the size of the boxes, I'd use USPS air mail service, 6-10 days to Belize and pretty reasonable cost. Alot less then UPS and Fedex.

You can do USPS, FedEx, or DHL. USPS would probably be your cheapest route. Even if you have a friend who works for FedEx and can find someone to give you a 75% discount, it's still very expensive. And yes I live in San Pedro.

I have shipped lots of stuff with Hyde and everything got here in good shape. Nothing was broken although they did mark several things they received as having broken packaging.

Sterling freight is great for small shipments. No Broker(save $100), they deliver to door (save hassle). Big orders- hyde- hands down

I ship stuff with Hyde all the time. Their agent in Belize City is Caribbean Shipping who call to confirm when it has left Miami and when it is due at the port. Then I use George Bradley as the broker to clear it through customs and put it on either the barge or flight to the Caye (depending on size/weight/fragility).

Hi lisa,
You ask a question in which I am very interested in the out come. I would like to ship household items as well.
At one point I went into the ambergris cay post office and they knew nothing of how to ship. ( strange) Some people say it takes months!
That is hard to believe, I think you need the right company.

I will not be shipping anything for quite some time, but wonder if you would be kind enough to let me know. About your experience.

thank you,

Hyde shipping is a freighter service that ships direct from Miami to Belize City. The nominal rate is 20 square feet or 1000 lbs for $60 usd. This gets the items to Belize City 3-4 days, and ready to clear custsoms in about 7-8 days from the time they were shipped. They ship two times per week, I think on Tue and Thur, but not sure. Check out Hyde Shipping

USPS is also a good option. It's very reliable and quick if you use USPS airmail. I wouldn't use ground, as that can sometimes take months!! It takes 6-10 days to get here using airmail, and it's usually closer to 6 days. The items come directly to San Pedro, you don't need a broker, and it's usually quicker. So there are advantages to this service, although it can be a lot more expensive then Hyde if you're shipping alot. An estimate of cost is about $100usd for 40lbs. You can contact USPS for exact rates, or check online.

There is also Sterling Freight which ships out of Houston. And there is air freight service that leaves from Miami, which is very quick and pretty reasonble price. Sterling Freight brings the items in through the western border in Cayo, and the air freight brings the items into International Airport.

I have been shipping thousands of dollars worth of stuff with Hyde and had one item damaged. A light that cost $60, Hyde marked the item received damaged. Several others have remarked they use Hyde and are very pleased with the service. Does Lisa have some special influence on your shipping preferences? The rest of us have used Hyde for many shipments. I think Uncle Buck explained the methods to ship very well. With Hyde you do need a custom broker in Belize to get your stuff through customs. This is the same process used in most countries. You also have to make sure you include an invoice for the goods or what the value of the goods are.
