We are still in the planning stages of our trip. Looking at November or late February. My question concerns insects. Not trying to be negative. Went to two different Caribbean islands and lost $40 or more in groceries each time because we were not aware of insect problems. First island had tiny ants get into breakfast sweets that were in paper bags on the counter. Second island lost food such as Ritz in unopened boxes sitting on counter - they (not sure what) got into unopened bags of chips, ritz, bread, etc. So just to be on the safe side, are we going to have those kinds of problems on AC. Can easily remedy some problems with plastic bags if we are just aware of the problem. We will be staying up north Los Enchantos. So will we have those or other types of problems with food and what do you suggest to remedy the problem before it starts.

I recommend bringing a bunch of Ziplocks (freezer not storage) and pack any food you have sitting out in those. You will get some ants, the tiny variety, if your food is not put away. Put away your food and wash up all crumbs, you'll be fine.

Agree! Not a good idea to leave cereal or bread type products on counters - best to put in the fridge... We live here on the island and put everything in plastic bins, double wrap in in freezer bags (not just the bugs, but the humidity can often contribute to the product's short life).

It's great that you are asking these questions so you can prepare and have a wonderful trip smile

If it doesnt come in a can, it goes in the fridge or freezer.

Just returned last Sunday - Freezer bags!!! We even get the larger sized ones and pack stuff in them coming and going. We lost nothing to insects or humidity by using freezer bags and the fridge. Leave what you do not need for the next traveler.
You will love it there!

We just got back and have already started trying to book again for Dec. 09.

Play, Love, Share and Enjoy - it doesn't last forever make sure you get the most out of it.
