We will be staying in Belize for 2 weeks in December, on our way back to Canada we will be in Cancun for 4 days over Christmas. Can anyone recommend a Hotel that has been recently renovated (no mold issue)? We are looking for something in the $250 range. Any help would be appreciated, I seem to be getting a lot of mixed information from expedia and travelocity.

Wow, there are so many 5 star hotels in Cancun...I wouldn't know which one to reccomend, but being you are travelling in Dec I would not delay in making a reservation somewhere.
Reality..What a concept!

Hello, Personally, from my experience a lot of 5 star hotels in Cancun are overated, with the exception of a few. When i go to Cancun i ALWAYS stay at the Royal Sands! When you add up all the amenities, it's the best deal in Cancun! Has an average year round price of $132 dollars/night (Thru x-mas it is going to be higher...of course) If your budget is in the $250/night.....i would not shop around.....just book it! You will NOT be disappointed! You can go to www.tripadvisor.com and read the reviews.....a LOT of people like this Hotel. Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the feedback, trip advisor was a very good source. Most places jumped from the two hundreds to the low four hundreds during the Xmas season. Royal Sands looks perfect, but of course it's fully booked. Found a place, just wish I could have stayed in Belize a bit longer smile Can't wait for December!

If its not too late...

Playa Del Carmen has many new Boutique Hotels and the pace and personality is closer to San Pedro.

Google La Tortuga hotel, about 1/2 of their rooms are less than a year old and it is a very nice place and location. Private, serene yet 3 min walk from everything!

Pace and personality gap is rapildy increasing as Playa expands exponentially quicker than San Pedro.

The hotel looks great and would have been a perfect fit! Unfortunately it's booked. I'm sure Cancun will be totally different from our stay in Belize, we thought we would take the slow way back to Calgary!
