I hear ya Dita, but just to play devil's advocate, did you review your children's lesson plans, text books, and assembly speakers before you let your children go to school? I think there is far more transparency with a speech from the president than with other items my children see every day. Am I wrong?

As a matter of fact, I did have an experience with what I considered an improper lesson when my oldest daughter was in high school. A teacher took it upon herself to teach the class about our judicial system. Her idea of that, however, was showing a room of 14 year old freshman the movie "The Firm". Aside from the fact that the movie had an R rating and none of the kids in the room would have been able to view this in the theatres, showing a Hollywood version of a courtroom is a far cry from the reality of our judicial system. Luckily, the movie was too long to be seen in one class period and I was able to stop the rest of the movie from being shown to my child. To answer your question, I did not review every lesson plan prior to it being taught but I did make every effort to know what was being told and/or shown to my children at school and took action when I felt it necessary.

BTW, all children are now out of school and the oldest is a 3rd grade teacher so viewing the movie probably didn't scar her for life, but now she is old enough to make the decision to watch and listen to whatever she chooses! smile

I had to note the irony I noted on the message board here today. One one thread is a discussion about what is a responsible way to protect your children from what may or may not be being taught in school in the USA and on another is a discussion about 15 year old girls in San Pedro and the discussion is certainly not about their protection.

School Districts in this area have chosen not to show it. I will look forward to seeing it on “YouTube” to judge for myself. My kids are out of school, but my grandkids aren’t!

I guess this has something to do with which president is speaking to the children of conservative parents.
