Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a cheap hotel close to the bus terminal going to Chetumal in Playa? Thanks a bunch

Posada Mariposa is a lovely little inexpensive place in Playa that I stayed on the way home from a trip in Dec. It's not by the bus station but there are cabs all over and they're cheap. It is a couple blocks from a lovely beach. It also is on a street with yummy restaurants, plenty of ATMs, and an internet cafe with phones. There are also some gift shops there. Little traffic. I enjoyed it.

Depends what you mean by "cheap". I usually stay at "Casa de las Flores" a few minutes' walk south on the same Avenue (20). Stylish and Spanish in feel (as opposed to Mexican). http://www.hotelcasadelasflores.com/

Thanks everybody! I appreciate the help You can do all of the intenet research you want but nothing beats the opinions of real live people who have "been there, done that!"

Hotel Alux is only a couple of blocks from the big Bus station (the one near the Wal Mart, not the downtown one). We've stayed there a couple of times... good price, clean, nice rooms.

since there are two bus terminals you may come into one and leave through a different one - as we just did. I just posted my trip report and listed a lot of information.
