My girlfriend and I are 21, and are coming to belize for 24 days. We wanted to see everything, and were just going to "wing it" as far as hotels and reservations. Probably going to be on a budget, thinking of staying at Rubie's, should we get reservations, or does anyone have any other suggestions? Also, what should we do/see? Snorkeling, cave tubing, ruins, fishing....Where are the best beaches, I've heard they are not so great some places? Any help is greatly appreciated.

August is a fairly slow month, but Rubie's in popular because of its prices -- I definitely would try to get reservations.

For your other questions, I'd start by searching this board and reading some of the many posts on the subjects.

Not sure about the best beaches, but you will love AC! Nothing else like it. Small, with the most friendly people ever! As Lan suggested, check the postings or post with specific questions. The people on this board are the most helpful and friendly you will ever find! We don't dive or snorkel, but just go to veg, sun, swim, read and eat. Even if you go with no specific plans in mind, there are so many informative people on the island who can point you in the right direction for whatever diversions you want, whether it is diving, snorkeling, fishing, etc. Have a great time!

yes, if you have the time to, go back and read this board. i went last august (bring bug spray and lots of it, no shit.) you will have a great time, but it is hot and humid in august. a few years back i also went to cayo, out west and would strongly suggest you stay a week there. it was so amazing. a good central point to many jungle & maya sites: xunantunich, rivers, caves, falls, etc. we stayed at the san ignacio hotel. they have a pool too, not fancy but comfy. the town is a short walk and many restaurants, a laundry etc. we stayed just a few days, but it was so great. a week in ac just to hang out on the beach is cool and cheap. oh, and invest the money in a good, recently published book on belize. read the home page of this board, it will tell you anything you want to know. good luck
