The Embassy of Mexico is pleased to invite the Belizean Media to a PRESS CONFERENCE on the upcoming inauguration of the water taxi service Chetumal-San Pedro.

Mexican and Belizean officials, as well as representatives of the Belizean company San Pedro Belize Express will be participating in said conference to discuss the upcoming opening and details of the Chetumal-Sarteneja-San Pedro and San Pedro-Xcalak routes.

And if anyone is thinking ahead, they will be packaging Cancun-Chetumal-San Perdo Bus/Water Taxi tickets, and syncing the Schedules

I just saw one of the water taxi managers, in Chetumal, who told me that the service starts this weekend, Friday, Sat, Sun, Mon leaving San Pedro at 8:30 a.m. and leaving Chetumal at 3 p.m. They will add other days of the week when business picks up.

How much is it?

BZ$110. They might still be offering a promotional price of $80. Both prices are for a return trip.

San Pedro Belize Express' newest water vessel arrived in San Pedro on Wednesday, October 21, in preparation for the company's scheduled trips to Chetumal, Mexico. The water taxi company will introduce a new run to our neighboring city of Chetumal, making our commutes easier, cheaper and more convenient.

The new schedule to Chetumal will commence on Friday, October 30, 2009. Customs officials will be on hand at both docking stations in San Pedro (Ambergris Diver’s Dock) and Mexico (Chetumal Municipal Pier) to process regular passport procedures and customs checks (the same procedure you go through at the Belize-Mexico Border in Corozal).

The vessel has a carrying capacity of 100 passengers and reservations are required. Trips are set for weekends only (Friday – Sunday) and leaves San Pedro at 8:30 a.m. and leaves Chetumal at 3:00 p.m. San Pedro Belize Express is offering a special price for the month of November of $40US round trip and the set price after the promotion is $55US round trip. Does this taxi have a head onboard?

If it doesn't, I don't think I'd be able to make that ride in "class and comfort". I'm just sayin' . . .

A friend of ours used this service and said it was excellent. About 1 hour 40 minutes, which is about the same time as the water taxi to Belize City, which I use regularly. No need for a head it seems. Quick and comfy. I'm looking forward to trying it.

Does anyone know if this an Mexican or Belize run business?

Ha, funny you ask...we took the boat back to BZE yesterday, They were flying both a Mex and a BZE flag. When asked about it, we were told that if they didn't have the MEX flag flying when they were in Mexican waters, they would be charged with a 10,000 fine, Sure enough on the way home, one of the crew gets up at takes down the mexican flag.

FYI, departure times are changing next week. If I understand, depart SP at 715am. Also, the round trip intro rate is $40us, while the oneway rate is $30 us.

After buying two 6 packs and heading to the boat, we found out they didn't. That's a lotta beer for 2 people and a couple hours plus customs check in.

Visiting vessels in Belizean waters fly their own flag and a quarantine or Belize flag depending on when they are cleared through customs and immigration.

Does anybody know if the days will change during high season? Looking to catch the ferry from Chetumal to SP in February on a Thursday....if not will probably look at arriving to SP via Corozal.

US$40 now return trip, US$30 one way, but it's a promotional fare. Not sure what the regular price will be or when it will come into play. If there is a call for the service I am certain with the level of investment it will run more often - I was told the stop in Xcalak will start in the not too distant future (weeks). I did the trip yesterday.
