Has anyone out there drove from the states to Belize? What are the roads like, safe, interstate???
My friend and I have thought about taking a month or so and doing the whole drive, but spending most of the time in AC decorating my new island home.
If you drive, is there a safe place to leave the vehicle on the mainland?
I have heard horror stories about customs in both Mexico and Belize, do these stories have any merit?
Thanks. Vicki

I've done that run three times and do not reccomend it to you. It's a tough run. Do you speak fluent spanish? Are you a white gringo? Do you have experience with mordita druggo boys? Do you know the difference between a tourista, verses a transito visa? Forget about Interstate highways. The toll roads aren't too bad, but a lot of the run is on rough roads to say the least. I'm not saying you can't do it, obviously it can be done. But it is dangerous and requires mucho street savy. I won't go again. I don't need the hassle. Every state line is an adventure. Sometimes nothing happens and they wave you through. Sometimes it's the third degree in rapido spanish slang. Be careful and research thoroughly. Good luck!

Thanks Dallas Dave.
I think I'll wait on the ride and do the air thing!
We just bought a house down on AC, and will use it as a vacation home for a few years. If we still think it's paradise, we will build and then I'm sure we'll want our vehicle on the mainland for trips.
