We are planning on flying into Cancun and then taking the bus to Belize, and then our plan is for an extended visit to Belize.

Do we still need to have a return flight, being that we plan to fly into Mexico, or can we enter Belize by bus without a return flight ticket?

I ask as we have just managed to cross the border into the US without any return flights to the UK, although we were told we should have them.

Legally & Technically? Probably. Pratically? Doubtful. Having made well over 40 trips to BZ and never once having been asked that question................

You won't be asked coming into the country, but if you are here on an extended stay, you could be asked for proof of a ticket when you are getting your visa extension stamp each month. You can just purchase a $10 return bus ticket on the Mundo Maya or Linea Dorado buses, at the water taxi in Belize City. The return ticket would be for Chetumal, Mexico or Flores Guatemala. There is nothing in the immigration law that says that you have to have a plane ticket out of here, so a bus ticket (which is good for 6 months) is sufficient. I have known people who have done this.

Not true I when back in the states like 3 weeks ago one way ticket to Cancun,then bus to Chetumal,and another bus to Belize they never ask me anything ,on visa stamp the 1st month is free after that the next 6 months is like 50 Bz. then it goes to 100Bz. If after 6 months you leave the country for a few days when you get back then the 1st 30 days are free then it starts over.You will have know problems relax and have fun

Well Fishman1, you got lucky, because when my daughter was here, before she got her work permit, she was asked for a copy of her return ticket, which we provided. So consider yourself lucky, because it has been my experience that you CAN be asked for these things.
