I was told today that the San Pedro Belize Express shuttle to Chetumal, Mexico from San Pedro, will offer a free shuttle boat to and from Caye Caulker/San Pedro for those wanting to utilize the direct boat service from San Pedro to Chetumal. You must make reservations, check with their office which is located on Avenida Hicaco (Front Street) for departure times/dates. It is now possible to go and come on the same day without having to spend an overnight. Very convenient for a quick shopping trip.

My wife went to the office on Caye Caulker. She was told that the Going to Chetumal and Returning on the same Same Day only applied to the trip to/from SAN PEDRO to CHETUMAL, not from Caye Caulker to Chetumal. She was told that the "one day trip" from Caye Caulker to Chetumal actually required two overnight stays in San Pedro, one the night before the boat to Chetumal and another overnight stay in San Pedro after the return trip from Chetumal.
Did we misunderstand something or is the one day trip to-&-from Caye Caulker to Chetumal actually a THREE DAY trip requiring two overnight stays in San Pedro?

Should be easy to figure out. What time does the taxi leave from San Pedro? What time is the earliest taxi from CC to SP. If it gets there to late that's a day and the same for the other direction. I'm not in CC now to check with San Pedro Belize Express time schedule but they have the hours posted on the front of their office.

The water taxi to Chetumal now departs Ambergris at 7:15 am on Fri, Sat, Sun,Mon.

The first San Pedro-Belize water taxi from CC to SP departs CC at 8:40 am.

Thank you. That means that there is NO Same Day Trip To-&-From Caye Caulker to Chetumal. It sure would be nice if there was a Same Day Trip To-&-From Caye Caulker to Chetumal. Does the extra distance make it imposssible or are there too few people wanting to make the trip to justify (financially) a Same Day trip from CC to Chetumal?

Moment by moment, their plans and schedule change, so it is best to check with the office. You can still get the free ticket from Caye Caulker to San Pedro, however you can not get to and from Chetumal on the same day because they are leaving too early from San Pedro in the morning and getting back too late. They are talking about having a special excursion shopping day trip from Caye Caulker, but nothing has been set yet. Caye Caulker is a very small market and while they woiuld like to have a regular run, it looks like they will not be able to do so.
