My wife and I want to know any recommendations on an all inclusive resort. Want to be right on the beach, have good food, 6 miles or less from San Pedro, and basically good accomodations. I've heard that the most expensive isn't always the best. Any suggestions, Sun Lovers?

For the last eight years we've done nothing but all-inclusive. I couldn't find one on Ambergris Caye. After reading the many reviews of restaurants in this great forum and website, and other web sites, I am excited not to do all-inclusive. I have a three-page compilation of reviews that tells me what to eat where and the prices. I also know one place I'll avoid (only one).

Start with Lan Sluder's Belize Magazine website for both restaurants and places to stay. www.turq.com/belizefirst/index.html

Then search this message board for names that interest you.

there are a few, i know journeys end has an all inclusive package. i would not recommend doing it, as you have so many choices of food on this island. you will miss half the fun by not getting around. honest. i considered it, but didnt do it. i am sooooo glad.

If you want an all-inclusive, you'll be better off in Jamaica. Belize is for those with a little more get-up-and-go.

The only quasi-all-inclusive on Ambergris is Journey's End, but most folks wouldn't spending all that money to stay and eat at just this one place. On the back side of Ambergris is Cayo Espanto, which is for all intents and purposes almost an all-inclusive - very expensive, at US$800 to $1400 a day per couple, and not always worth it according to some who have the money to invest in this type of place and who have stayed there.

There are a couple of all inclusives on the mainland -- Mopan River Resort in Benque (Cayo), which is an excellent value, and Kanantik near Hopkins (US$600 a day per couple).

As Jane said, some of the hotels on the north side of the island offer meal packages, probably due to the distance to town and other restaurants, but not sure if that includes liquor/beer.We also have always done the "all-inclusive" during our vacations until our trip to AC. While everyone has to do what is best for them,we will never do an all-inclusive on AC, mainly because there are SO MANY great places to eat! Also because we found the food to be very reasonable, either in the restaurants (most of them),or if you buy at the grocery and cook in your hotel/condo.You can buy beer (Belikin, of course!)at the distributor for a very reasonable price(most hotels will have it delivered and in the fridge waiting for you when you get there). The street vendors offer inexpensive, delicious food (we would have never eaten from the vendors in Mexico!)and you don't have to worry about getting sick. Celi's Deli has great, low priced food..burritos,tamales, garnaches, etc.And there is nothing better than eating breakfast at Estel's by the Sea.However, if all-inclusive is the way you want to go, they are available, but, the hotels that offer them,I think,(locals and those "in the know" on the board, correct me here if I am wrong!)are on the north side of the island, on the other side of the "cut" in the river. Even if you do an all-inclusive, try to eat in town whenever you can. It is definately worth it!
