On Saturday November 28, 2009 San Pedro High participated in the Northern Regional Basketball Tournament held in Orange Walk Town which was hosted by the Belize Rural High School.

In the first match, San Pedro High Female Team defeated Muffles College in a toughly contested match. In the championship match, San Pedro High Female Team again emerged victorious against Belize Rural High School. This game again was won by only two points. Overall the female division was very competitive and our girls put their best efforts to win. Miss Rocio Ruiz was voted Most Valuable Player due to her superb playing during crunch time.

The male basketball team was adequately prepared for the tournament. The boys had been involved in the on-going local tournament and it showed. Their first victory was against New Hope High School. Though they gained a comfortable lead, their overconfidence allowed the other team to come dangerously close. Yet in the fourth quarter, the team got serious and ended up putting the game away to move on the championship match. In the championship match, the team cruised over Corozal Community College and emerged winners by a margin of about 25 points.

For a second year in a row, San Pedro High moves to the National Tournament to represent the entire Northern Region as well as our island. Special thanks are extended to all the persons involved in training, coaching and sponsoring the team for this tournament. A List will be released next week.

We also invite the entire community to help in sponsoring our young athletes as they move on to the national forum to represent us. Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Please contact the office of the school with any donations.
