Pelecanus occidentalis
The Brown Pelican was listed as endangered since 1970 when its numbers dipped to 10,000. The US government remedied the situation by imposing a ban on the use of DDT in 1972. Since then, the population of Brown Pelican had been climbing and was recently removed from the list in November 2009. Current estimates place the population at 650,000 individuals.
The one in the photo is a young mature female.

I am confused Elbert, so white Pelican and Brown Pelican, is that like with White and Black people? Who does what and how does the social order work? I am obviously not a Birdman, just curious how it works with birds.

Yes ,you could call it a different race. Thats fair, race in taxonomy is referred to a subspecies.
The white Pelican seems to prefer fresh water and you see them around the Crooked Tree Reserve.

Elbert, I always enjoy viewing your photos. These are no exception. They are wonderful. I love the nested young and the one landing on the beach wall with one swimming below.

Thanks for sharing your talents.

Elbert - I must not be doing something right. I go to your link and I get half a picture with a strip (starting with a calendar) on the right half. I would love to see the whole pictures. Can you help me?

This problem has bothered me for a long time , it only effects some viewers and has to do with permissions . I'll keep trying to solve it but I'm currently stumped. The pics are just 900 pixels wide and there is something I need to change somewhere on my end but it doesn't seem to effect everyone????
one solution is to join 'Live Journal' that fixes your viewing problem, but thats not the best solution.
I'll explore my controls some more today and try a few more things.

It might be to do with screen resolution and size. I have a new wide screen monitor and on my old regular screen I had the same problem. On my new monitor the site is fine on full screen but if I have the window less than full screen size it does same thing.

I searched viewer options and nothing seems to be adjustable any more friendly than it is.
I have wide screen also.
I don't know where to find full screen on the monitor controls?

Easy solution:
Hold down the Ctrl key while pressing + or - that will make the picture bigger or smaller

I moved the link to my wide screen monitor and used the Ctrl + and it did make the picture larger - HOWEVER - it did not include the entire pictures (I don't think). What I see is beautiful but I sure would like to see the rest of the picture.

They are great pictures
Weird I tried (Ctrl -) on both my regular monitor and my wide screen monitor and can see the whole picture. The other alternate is to right click on the picture and save as then view the picture in whatever picture viewer you have

Copy/paste did work and the two that I took the time to view are absolutely- BEAUTIFUL! Elbert you have a gift. (However, I'm not willing to take the time to do this for each one.) Love you anyway.

Elbert - is the brown pelican in the picture in your first post about 3/4 of the way toward the right edge? If so I can see it all, but if it's central I also have a problem.
