The complete absence of scientific rigour that this shows, with all sorts of people glibly accepting it without any serious questioning, frankly terrifies me. The general public don't have access to the "evidence" behind such claims and have to decide whether to accept it according to the general scientific gravitas of the people saying it. This completely undermines this process. Although some "scientists" were presumably misled and themselves accepted the assertion of glaciers vanishing based on who had said it, I am quite confident that there were many people in positions of political influence who knew that the information was false yet endorsed and promulgated it. Can any reasoning person now accept anything "experts" say?
