Marty I just got a phone call from my son in los angeles. His inlaws told
him by telephone that they received a call from belize saying some of the
belama cement homes have gone down due to soil erosion . They live in
corozal and they confirm that the waters of corozal bay has gone out and that
they have never seen this happen before. The informant from Belize also said
that they have 5 feet of water or a little more where they are on fabers
road. Plenty cars floating around and lots of lamp posts down. they do not have any water where they are in San Andres Village, which is
pretty high, that theyjust received a phone call from a friend in Belize,
saying the water is about 4 to 5 feet where they are located on Fabers road,
Gama

Just back from checking my boat -- which is hauled up back of the old (now
burned out) Capri Hotel.

We have a typical El Norde low tide -- nothing exceptional. The winds are
much less -- and may be changing direction. Light waves coming toward the
shore now. I expect the tide to reverse -- gently -- as the wind shifts more.

People are all waiting for a 12 foot tidal surge -- the town of Corozal is
still shut down -- evacuated.

Well, better safe than sorry I guess.

As I mentioned to my neighbors here in the beginning. The fact that Miami
forecasted this hurricane Keith would be wacking Corozal almost guarantees
that it will never happen. And so far -- it has not!

Keith never go closer to us than sixty or so miles. But it reached within
30 of Belize City.

Yet, Belizeans believing Miami refuse to believe that Keith was not heading
North West until their roofs in Belize City started blowing off.

They were lucky this time. This habit of taking everything American as the
holy word -- to the point of ignoring what their own eyes and ears show
them -- can result in a catastrophe of terrible proportions. I keep hoping
-- since Mitch -- that we can have an "attitude" change -- but no -- post
colonials are well trained not to think for themselves.

Hi again, Another Hurricane Keith update. I wish someone would call CNN and the Weather Channel and tell them to quit scaring the people. According to them Corozal Town in northern Belize is being destroyed.
Well that is far from the truth. We have NO mudslides, NO flooding, NO hurricane force winds, NO houses being ripped apart by the winds. Many grocery stores were open every day. We got a little rain but nothing out of the ordinary. We have actually had worse storms when there was no hurricane around. I went into town a few minutes ago and the restaurants are OPEN for business. Our Inn, the Corozal Bay Inn also never closed for business. We are located 60 feet from the waterfront and never had to board up any windows and we slept with the windows open. Only the banks and government buildings boarded up.
The only persons that went to the hurricane shelter were the ones who lived in old wooden shacks. There are a few pools of water in the lower parts of the yard and we get that every time it rains. In town the only persons that have water in the yard are the ones who live in swampy areas.
The bay is calm and the tide is 3 feet lower than normal. We NEVER had any storm surge. Right now the weather is quite nice but overcast.
We appreciate the satellite photos from the Weather Channel & CNN but do not appreciate when they report what they do not know for a fact.
It is much more interesting reading when someone makes it sound like the end of Belize but it is not true for Corozal Town.
About San Pedro and Belize City we do not live there so we can not report on the happenings there. Thanks for reading.
Sincerely,
Doug & Maria Podzun www.corozalbayinn.com
