What's that old saying "when good men do nothing?"
And why say "It's their island?" Who is they?

I do love the history of how the people who consider themselves TRUE San Pedroneans "inherited" the land. The way some are selling their inheritance makes me wonder how much they love the island. I keep hearing about where they plan to go when they retire. Now, don't get me wrong; I left the USA when I retired - and for good reason. Now I consider this island my home and feel responsible for protecting it. AND I am responsible to stand up for what is right and decent.

I moved to San Francisco in 1957 and soon learned that NOBODY was born there. In 1964 I gave birth to my daughter in one of the few hospitals there. To this day the "Immigrants" far out number the natives and everyone who lives there (whether they pay taxes or not) gets to vote.

The strangest word I hear here is TRANSPARENCY. Things are so transparent that they can not even be seen.

There is something about living on an island. Native San Pedranos were born here. Those of us that have moved here are residents and members of the community. Having said that we have an active voice that we are learning to use responsibly. I honestly never experience us vs them. And generally feel well respected and protected by my friends and neighbors
Yes, some native San Pedranos are "selling out" the island but it is the non natives that are buying up their legacy and developing our shared environment.
All members of the community have a voice and a responsibility to use it to protect the legacy of this beautiful island that we all love so we hand it to the next generation is the best condition environmentally and economically. There is no them and us in that.

I was reacting (over-reacting) to the bit about "leave it to the San Pedroneans" Pam - you are right on and a bit more rash than I was. I don't get an us vs them from people face to - but do feel it here on the message board where too many people hide behind anonymity. I'm waiting for my meds to kick in - LOL
