We're looking at coming down this August...although the more I read this message board the less I think I can wait that long!! What's it like in AC in August? We will be celebrating our 20th anniversary as well as my wife's (ahem!) 40th birthday! What will the weather be like? Does anything shut down during the off-season? We may be over 40, but we still like to get out and shake a leg! Here in Colorado, off-season means great hotel rates, but most of the restaurants and shops in resort towns shut down. What can we expect? I want to make this a really special occasion...ya think I can get Barefoot Skinny to sing happy birthday to my wife??

August is not that bad at all. It is a bit hotter but not bad. We have been down there many times in August and have not ever had any bad weather, an occasional rain shower but nothing major. I do not think anything is closed at that time of the year either. Have a great time!

Diann, that sounds like a kick! I'm not familiar with the restaurant you mentioned. We're kind of partial to seafood (isn't it great being landlocked?!)...are you familiar with Jax in Lodo?

Sounds great, BC! That's a bit of a drive from where you are, but sounds like a blast. We'll try and land someplace convenient for all. Diann, what do you think?? Is Lodo convenient enough for all?

sorry, i hate to be the "downer", i was there last august, the 16th - 23rd. it was sunny nearly everyday, with a few showers. it was hot, and i mean hot. and very humid. had to wear my hair tied back tight day & night (frizzball!). most days there was a great breeze. then there were the bugs...they were...well...proliferative. yeah, proliferative. this was particular to windless days. now, i was north of the cut, where they are worse than in town, and i was told it was a bad year, worse than usual. the mosquitoes were feirce and the flies were all over our food. again, i understand it was an anomoly. otherwise, i had a super trip! (bring lotsa bug spray, it is $$$ there. we used 7 cans in a week, but shared it too.)oh, most every place was open tho. one place only closed for lunch. again, everthing else was great.

janeinPA, thanks for the tips, (I can't believe that someone from PA would complain about humidity!)I lived in the midwest for 20yrs, it was humid all summer long...now after 10 yrs in Colorado, where the humidity rarely gets above 20% in the summer...the humidity will hit us like a ton of bricks...oh well, nothing a cold Belikin can't fix! Besides, the wife LOVES hot weather. Bugs will take some getting used to, though. I've enjoyed your postings and pics on this board...keep it up!
BC...weekends are best for us as well. We'll wait for Diann to chime in, and set something up. Looking forward to it! (I hope you have photos!)

Hey... this is great!! I'm flexible, so let me know what works. Friday and Saturday nites are great, as are afternoons on either of those days. Next weekend? Would that work for either of you? Lodo is great, although I've never been to Jax, but I'm game. Maggiano's is Italian and one of the best in Denver, and is usually pleasing to most. But I too love seafood... grew up on the northern coast and had salmon and crab all the time! And as far as being landlocked, don't tell me you haven't heard my screaming and complaining!!! Ever try to go swimming around here?? They give you a 10x10 area in these lakes......THAT'S IT!!!! So, I travel 3 hrs to Lake McConaughy; white sandy beaches, warm water, and you can swim anywhere you want!! Ok, enuff of my whining......I know it's not Ambergris, but... meeting and talking about it will have to suffice for now!! Let me know what works for you guys... can't wait!!!!
