I just came back from a trip to San Pedro. Absolutely loved it- so much that now I am making plans to move down! I'd love to meet some people that love Belize like I do!!!

I have been going for 30 years and just recently my husband & I bought a place and plan to spend several months a year. It's a great place with wonderful people and gorgeous surroundings. We are making our first trip in 38 days, and are hoping we enjoy it as much as you. AC is the first place we are visiting on our quest to find a a place to live full-time to get away from the stress of living in Atlanta.

If you find out let me know,,loking for same as you. Used to live in Cobb County...traffic (what's that)?

At the rate Americans are "moving" to AC it won't be long before the traffic problems of Atlanta will seem like a walk in the park.

May be time to move on...

Living here is VERY DIFFERENT than visiting here. I made 8 trips down before I bought a place. Even then it took at least a year to "settle in." You can not be in a hurry - I have company that just left that found many things "UNACCEPTABLE." Her words, "I wouldn't put up with that." These were things I just shrugged off.

I wouldn't trade my life here for anything anyplace else but I did have to learn a lot.

Standard advice: read Don't Stop the Carnival.

Harriette ,you are so right ,(I have the book in my condo .makes great reading .And so true to the point.

There is another book that I found soooo familiar. Although the setting is Anguilla, so much is the same.
A Trip to the Beach (Living on Island Time in the Caribbean) by Melinda and Robert Blanchard
Easy read about an American couple moving and operating a business. True story.

As for book reviews somewhat related to this topic I would suggest: The Sex Lives of Canibals: Adrift in the Equatorial Pacific By J. Maarten Troost It is also a true story that takes place in the Pacific rather than the Caribbean but it definitly relates.

He also wrote another one called "Smoking with Savages" along those same lines....all were excellent.

"Getting Stoned with Savages" - sounds like something I have done before. The title alone makes me want to buy the book.

I've read both the J. Maarten Troost books and loved them. Some parts will make you cringe.... lol
Another favorite travel book is "An Embarrassment of Mangoes" by Ann Vanderhoof.

Thanks for the recommendations! It talks me, on average, a little over 3 months to read one book cuz I never have the time... I'll let you know in about a year what I think of these.
