We've been to Belize a number of times but can't recall if we still have to use cash only to pay VAT, or if the Goldstein airport now allows credit card/debit card payments. Can anyone respond? Checked their website and it doesn't say. t - 3 days and counting. Thanks!

The departure tax is typically paid in US dollars in cash. I don't know about credit cards.

Assumming you mean Departure Tax rather than VAT or GST - Most airlines have the departure tax built into the ticket price and so it's already paid. The exception is American Airlines.

YEs, I meant departure tax. AA did include it 5 yrs ago. We head down each year and have always assumed cash was necessary.

I have noticed that there were credit card signs at the desk where you pay departure tax (unless your ticket has the fee included) although I have never used a card to pay the tax.

An easy way to handle it if it is not already included in your ticket is to stash the money away with your return tickets in USD when you are on your way in that way you have it ready and in the right currency.

We used Credit Card for the departure tax in January because we were on an American Airlines flight and AA does not include that tax in their ticket price. If you have a large group or family, keep that in mind.

Departure taxes and fees are now US$39.25. As noted, though, all but one airline includes it in the ticket price.
