I will be coming down in about 12 days for our 25th anniv. I will be fishing from the dock or wading out to fish. What color and types of Lures are best? I have some hooks and weights for sardines. I was thinking 3 inch shrimp and small peeler crabs in a natural or rootbeer color.
Thanks for any advise.

Depends on what you want to catch.

Some people need to be nicer on this forum...

Obviously it depends on what you want to catch.. Give him a list, if you don't know, then don't respond.. Right?

just my 2 cents..

I've only fished with sardines off the pier. If you have any luck with lures when you do come, let us/me know which ones!

I think I would like to catch Fish Probably the ones in the water. Preferably alive dead ones don't fight much. Birds are hard to catch and would be more like a kite and boats are to big for my tackle. Snorkelers and Scuba Divers would probably have a temper and want to fight. Sticks and grass are exciting at first but soon loose there interest.

I know how to catch a buzz. Just add Biliken in large quantities.

Thanks, Hansen I will try sardines from the dock.

MT I have no idea what you are upset about .i think brandons question was a good one .There are lots of fish from the dock you can catch .if the dock is in deeper water and at high tide ,yes live sardines are great you will catch snapper ,all types and a cuda is very likly .some docks are to shallow to fish from .also as far as lures i think you will be using spin tackel .8 to 10 lb test light or ultra light ,is good use any small shinny lure with a small hook 1 '0 short shank mustard or red white spinner ,or any thing that spins and flahes will have the local cuda comming up to hit it .if you are wading in the water the bone fish are there in large numbers .again there very light tackel4 to 6 lb test shrimp, small shrimp touts ,very small hooks .or crabs small dotlures or better yet live crabs if can get some ..now if you want to fly fish can not help you there. not my thing i am a reef guy ..pm me here on this board I will give you my phone number in the states you can call me I will tell you all ,that I know and will try to help you catch some fish . but I learn something new with every trip !!!! tight lines to you and good fishing . here is to living the dream .Enjoy.

Captjeff I was not mad. I was being facetious. I don't get upset easily. I am to laid back.

We will be staying at Portofino and fishing with the guide from there for a day on the reef.

Thanks for the info.

Don't take life to serious, It's not permanent.

MT Flask. Enjoy your vacation! Portofino is one of the best places to stay on the island. (IMO) My comment was just to get you to narrow down what you want to catch. Capt Jeff is right for example the 'cuda will hit spinners and if you just want to 'dock' fish cut up bait fish is fine and you will catch a variety. Enjoy your trip. grin
