It's got venomous spines, but the scorpionfish is endemic to this reef.

Scorpionfish have been here forever and are harmonious with the reef.
They have a contradiction, they have a powerful defense weapon and most creatures that do don't evolve with camouflage.
camouflage is for the defenseless creatures protection.
hummmm i bet he eats things that wander to close because of the camouflage.

Thanks Elbert. On my first trip to Turneff in Jan. '01 I almost put my finger on one in order to steady myself to take a picture of some really beautiful coral. My dive buddy slapped my hand away causing the scorpion fish to flare his fins. That's when I saw him and did get two quick shots off.
These critters are just one more reason to not touch the reef.
Are they usually at depth?

I wee them from 40 to 80 feet.
I think it gets to surgeie for most creatures shallower than 40'.
