The electricity has recently been moved a bit farther south thanks to a couple of property owners who paid out of pocket for an additional 1,200 ft or so.

Power is now only about 2,500 ft from Ras Safari bar. There are only 2 properties south of Ras Safari, a 100' property currently for sale and the 4.5 acers for sale by Cory/partners.

The purpose of this post is to solicit south end property owners interested in pooling enough money together to bring the power all the way to Ras Safari Bar.

Why do this?

1) Property with power is worth far more than property without power.

2) Stimulate more home construction so that the south end has more residents/visitors for more income potential and hopefully increased crime prevention.

3) Help Ras Safari Bar (Robert) remain open for business so that south end property owners have a place to share a cold beer / hot food.

Anyone interested in this worthy and property value increasing cause please contact me. I'll form a contact list of all interested parties, obtain a price quote for the power extension and spear head this cost sharing effort.

Good idea Tommy, but are you putting in a airstrip for international arrivals also ?

No need. San Pedro already has direct international air arrivals!

Thanks Tim, the last a spoke with Cory (last summer) he said he had spent "his" money to bring the power down to his "commercial" property for sale just north of Darrin Fisher's house.

Darrin and Dr. (?) owner of the large white fenced area/house paid to have the power brought down to Dr. (?).

There now is only about 2,500 ft left to cover EVERYONE all the way to the south end.

There are a lot of owners still without power. It won't take all that much per individual if everyone chips in. Even those who plan to sell should be interested as having power will drastically increase the value of their property.

Tommy, have you asked BEL for a quote yet? It might be easier to drum up support if you can give landowners a specific $ amount.
When we brought down power to our house (a bit more than 2500ft) it was still quite costly even though BEL covered almost 20% of the expense.

It's very costly.

I didn't want to scare anyone off untill I had a list of interested owners.

I'm told it cost Darrin and the doc around $9,000 US to go 1,200 ft so 2,500 will be around $20,000 US.

The only way to accomplish such a lofty goal is to have nearly all the property owners currently without power chipping in.

Thanks for your willingness to help. So far we have a grand total of 3 responders interested counting myself. We need about 17 more for this to be very cost feasable.

We might can get it done with 7 more contributors depending upon the contribution limit per contributor.

I think we should contact owners directly with a dollar amount based on square footage owned by each individual.

I spoke with Cory about it 2months ago while I was there.

I think that the South end will become more desireable as time goes on..with costs and problems associated with having to take a water taxi to and from SP....personally, I like the convenience of coming and going at my convenience.

My husband and I left our IPOD and portable speakers with Robert and suggested he make signs leading down to the bar....from what I could tell as of 2 months ago...there is considerably more traffic down there now.

His signs could use a little help...and he sais it will cost $200 to get his toilets to flush without having to pour in a bucket of water first......

He should try taking the toilet off and look to see if there is any obstruction in the line. Several yrs. ago I had a similar problem and have well water. When I removed the toilet there was like mineral deposits that formed and about choked off the drain line, it was like gravel or like clinkers from a coal fire. Just a thought.

Great idea to call the owners but obtaining a list of owners with phone numbers will be a problem.

I don't agree with your formula for calculating expenses though. I think the expense should be split equally among the owners willing to participate.

The signs down to Robert's Ras Safari worked for us in January. I kept thinking, "geez, we should be there by now, don't know how we could have missed it" and then there'd be a sign. So terrij, very good idea to have suggested signage.

I didn't notice anything wrong with his toilet. :^)

robert has some information on the owner next to him with white fence .....I believe Robert thought that he and another man may already have plans to take care of electricity.

I am the man with the white concrete fence one lot north of Robert.

Another doctor and Darrin Fisher paid to have the electricity brought to where it is currently located at the doctor's house with a large white wooden fence enclosure.

There are only 3 or 4 owners showing interest at this time.

I'd say we need a minimum of 6 - 7 more, prefer 17 more.

I say yes..............check book says no.

The answer is when I can afford to do so and when I will be able to live there at least part time.

I'm 43 y/o and not wealthy so full retirement is a long time away for me. I'm working toward being able to live there at least part time prior to retirement.

One of the first steps is to get power and more neighbors. Even if I had the money to build I wouldn't until the power is avail and others are living full time down there. I toured the destruction / looting that has occured to Darrin's house. Truely sad what the thugs have done to this guys house / dream.

I don't think we need to worry about the kind of destruction that took place at Darrin's house....with the neighborhood watch now..

However, if Darrin's house is the blue green colored one at the curve...my biggest gripe is that it is an eye-sore and somebody should have it cleaned up.

Some of the looting occurred after the establishment of the neighborhood watch. During the rainy season the road gets bad and the watch guys don't always go that far south. I have brought this issue to their attention at the last meeting. I did see the watch come down to Robert on my last visit. The road was dry at that time. I thanked them and bought them a soda. Until more people are living that far south or have houses to protect that far south I don't think the watch guys are going to make that trek routinely when the road is bad.

But there again I am a very small contributor to the watch at this time. I'm sure if I contributed a lot more money then I could insist they come all the way down even in bad road conditions. I don't have much to protect at this time so my contributions are small compared to those who live there full time and have a much higher stake.

Everything boils down to money!

Before someone misinterprets my above statement let me state this.

SACNW is a very well organized and very successful volunteer program established and maintained by some very dedicated and hard working local residents. These folks contribute a huge amount of personal time and money into this effort. I have nothing but admiration and gratitude for the people who make SACNW successful.

Given the limited resources of SACNW it only makes sense at this time to focus on the areas with the highest population and houses needing protection. There are only 4 houses on the very south end at this time, one already looted to the point that nothing is left to steal, one about 40% constructed and 2 with residents.

Of course we must remember that there is no place on the island where you can build a house and leave it completely unoccupied & unsecured that would not be ransacked. This is where neighbourhood watches become very important.

And it should be noted that if you choose to live and build a home in a remote area, with few neighbours - your neighourhood watch should be supplemented by a full time caretaker.

I love my home here on the island but I realize that there are criminals and I must take steps to protect myself and my property.

We work hard to fight crime on many levels, and it certainly won't go away, but we can slow them down and deter them.
