Hello! I am 53 years old and my wife is 47. We are both retired because of a successful website. We are thinking about selling a large beautiful log house in Pennsylvania and moving somewhere outside the USA. We do not like cold weather and we believe there is a trend that has been going on with retired people moving to better climates and we feel that we are meant to be a part of that phenomenon. We seem to be focusing on Belize. My standard spendable income is approx. 3000.00 USD a month for the rest of my life at the present time. Our dilema is that we have 7 beautiful pets that are part of our family. Can anyone direct us to a real estate agency that can help us locate a small (5 acre) property in the Progresso, San Pedro, Orange Walk area. Thank you for any suggestions.

If you haven't already done it, i suggest you look at the retirement benefits/requirements at http://belizeretirement.org if you are serious.

COUSINS, go for it, you will be happy.
I say email Charles at Ambergris Real Estate as mentioned on an above post. He has been most helpful to me in searching for the right property.

I'd suggest you also look at the Corozal Town area. Cheap, safe, friendly, convenient to Mexico. Very few expats in Orange Walk Town area, although there are a few in rural areas. Progresso (assuming you mean the Progesso Lagoon area) is pretty remote but beautiful.

Most of the people who have applied and have been accepted under the Qualified Retired Persons Program seem to be quite satisfied. There are some disadvantages to it, and some people prefer going with the regular residency program.

Bill Wildman (in Consejo Shores) is the quality real estate person in Northern Belize. He's been in Belize for 30 some years, has surveyed a lot of the country and knows it well. Quite a difference from some of the "180-day wonders," folks in resort areas who become instant Belize real estate agents.

M y new book on living/retiring/investing in Belize will be out from Avalon this summer. I hope it will be useful to those who are thinking of Belize but who want a candid evaluation of the situation.

I want to thank you all for your replies and offers of assistance. I recieved the beautiful map Ian and it is hanging up on my wall now. My wife is beginning to have hesitations now. She does'nt think that we can make the move with all of our pets. We are neurotic as hell and they are like family to us. I am going to continue to collect as much info as I can and keep pressing in that direction. It looks like a wonderful place. I hope it does not get ruined by direspect and indifference. God bless you all, and take care of one another.
