My husband and I were just married Saturday, Sept.30 and we had been planning to take our honeymoon in Belize. We were to arrive there today, but due to the hurricane we now are not sure what we should do because we have not been able to get enough information re: conditions there and if the airport is open, etc. We would like to fly into Belize City and then head down to the southern part of the country. In your opinion, is it safe to fly into Belize City (provided the airport is open) and then take a local airline to Dangriga or Placencia? Are the local airlines even flying?

I would check into a local Inn and enjoy your honeymoon. Plan on Belize for your anniversary.

Alan and Ashley: Congrats! I too was supposed to honeymoon in Belize on AC for my honeymoon in 98. I was told the day before my wedding not to come because of Mitch. We ended up going to another island in the caribbean. I would tell you to not even consider going till your anniversary.

Although, I am planning on going Nov 3 for my anniversary (late) and thought it couldn't happen again... and hello Keith...

We too tied the knot on Saturday and are to leave for Cancun on Wednesday morning for 10 days. American Airlines is offering us to cancel and get a refund. Any insight into the damage, if any, in Cancun.

I want to go...I need to relax. My new husband wants to cancel and go some other time. Boy I tell you I just got married and a man named Keith is already causing probems.

my friend and i are supposed to leave for cancun next monday morning. we are determined to come down but are not sure if we should stay in mexico or continue with our original plan and head into belize or guatamala.

any suggestions?

Nonsense to staying away for a month!!!! My Wife and I got married 10 days after Hurricane Mitch (Captain Morgans) and, despite some debris all was well.

Congrats to all of you! Being an Travel Agent, my vote would be to hold off going into Belize at this point and time. If the Airlines are offering to refund your money, they are doing this for a good reason. Listen to them. Try another location! Need some ideas, drop me a line.

We are headed to Guatemala and Belize on Saturday. We directly contacted each of the places we are going and got their opinion of the weather, the devastation and whether or not we should alter our plans.

So far, we've been told that things are fine and we should continue on with our trip. The only place we are reconsidering is Ambergris, although we aren't scheduled to go there until 10/15.
