We stayed with Raymond at Ocean's Edge Lodge in Tabacco Caye 4 years ago and loved it, but it seems to have dropped off the map as far as guide books and the internet are concerned. Does anyone know if they are still in business and/or contact info? We also met Gerald and Carmita there and they took us out to see their resort (Sacrifice Resort) on the way back to the mainland. We would like to spend a night or two with them as well if anyone happens to know their contact info. We know what to expect, but to us Belize is more about the people than the accomadations. We're comming back in May and any help would be much appreciated!
When I google it all I get are (really bad) hotel reviews, but no contact info. Did you find something else? Would you mind posting a link for me? Thanks
I know that tobbaco caye diving is not running anymore I think where the reviews are concerned Tobbaco Caye is an aquired taste and the accomodations are not really up to scratch for the price you pay for them.
I can easily see how people could arrive there with the wrong expectations and be very disapointed. When I stayed there I loved the location and proximity to the reef but amazed nobody actually fixed up one of those places to resonable standards as they would have a cracking location.
I've visited Tobacco Caye several times when I've been staying at Thatch Caye (nearby) and IMO it's a tropical slum. I agree with Gaz's comments, and also with Katie that Southwater Caye is FAR nicer.
Heres the link to the website... http://www.global-travel.co.uk/ocean.htm Last time we went to Tabacco Caye we stayed at Gaviotas...small cabanas $20 a nite each included 3 meals...but that was a few years ago..very small caye..had more expensive places on it. We also sailed there with Ragamuffin tours...one of the best times we have had....
Heres a link to trip advisor with most all reviews positive about Tobacco Caye and Gaviotas....Folks that need air conditioning T.Vs and overdone creature comforts wont do well there...its a special place for special folks......one review read the sheets did not match the pillow cases...get a grip.......
Thanks everyone! Personally, I loved Tabacco Caye. Comparatively expensive or not, I loved the solitude, loved the people. I really want to go back just can't find any contact info for Ocean's Edge Lodge.
I am actually about to take over Ocean Edge. Working out of the details now. I currently reside in Louisiana, plan on being permantly on the island by August. So, give me a couple of months and by October, there is going to be a really nice place to stay on Tobacco Caye.....
I have gotten enough feed back to know thats not a good idea....It was a combination of things that just had me at a place where I thought I would not pay to make a point.......
