Does anyone know if Harbour View restaurant in Belize City has closed down?

The number's not working and I just saw this post:

Any input appreciated.

Tried to eat lunch there about a year ago and taxi driver told us it was closed. Not sure if it has reopened or not as I have not tried to go there within the last year.

That explains why I couldn't get hold of them to do a review when I was in Belize City...

You'd be surprised how many guidebooks still include it.

Thanks!

Not in the least surprised. Some guide books still include businesses closed for more than 5 years prior to publication date. Research for these books is generally minimal. The only one I ever found that was properly researched was the Rough Guide, and that was only because Peter Eltringham took his job seriously.

Jesse,

You ARE such a sweetie. And I must say you, like a fine Sauterne, are becoming sweeter with age.

Yes indeed, I should have excepted Lan. His information is always up to date. Though perhaps his personal judgement is failing grin

Now that Peter Eltringham is sadly deceased, I wonder who's writing on Belize for Rough Guide?

Jesse was, I think, being sarcastic. But that's okay -- he's still an old sweetie.

Peter Eltringham wasn't well enough to do most of the last edition of Rough Guide. Offhand I can't recall the names of the young people who did the research for the last update, but I've got their names somewhere. Don't know if the same people will do the next edition, or not.

The great thing about Peter and his book was that he had been doing Rough Guide for years and years. He had a long history in Guatemala and Belize and was very concerned about getting stuff right. Most of the other guides, like LP, go through a different writer every year or two. Which is understandable, because the guidebooks don't pay much.

I've been doing Fodor's Belize (and before that Fodor's Belize & Guatemala) for over a dozen years, maybe longer, my memory fades, but this is a young person's game.

In the tourism business, things change constantly. It's impossible to stay totally up to date, unless you publish only on the internet and update the information weekly or so.
