I think it's the barge entrance to the Marina at the back of the Caye, that was natural cut but deepened and widened for barge access to get the barges off the front of the Island. Sometimes this sort of thing is necessary and the damage worthwhile as it saves continual damage on the front side of the Caye that will affect the Reef itself.
