Does anyone know where I may find Science Diet, Iams or Euknaba dog food?

I've done research to Science Diet, and found they have a sales representative for Central America. Costa Rico gets some. Unfortunately I have left tons of messages, and never gotten a call back by this guy. The story with the other food is the typical "monopoly" game. Everything here is Purina and Pampered Paws and SanCas gets theirs from a farm store on the mainland. When I talk to them they just say that they order what they order. So its Pedigree, Beneful, Proplan, and that's it. It's even worse for cats.

Even if you do have a permit there's always the chance that your order will be held up or siezed by customs for "some" reason or another Why is Customs here so unpredictable? I've never had goods seized (though they have vanished when in Customs' cars) but for identical goods I have been charged widely differing taxes on different occasions.

Or you could try to make your own dog food... After I found bugs in one package, I realized why he was just not eating it! I now make treats and food for Snoops and he loves it Have never tried cat food, but I am sure there are recipes on the internet...

Problem solved. My dog likes to eat cats. Helps hold down the feral cat population.

Short of an absolute thug of a dog matched up with a very placid cat, I'd back the cat any day.

Just joking. I got a kick out of your responses. I like both dogs & cats too, but believe me, my dog Frank (thus my message board name) is so dumb he would not realize he was being hurt until after the fur settled. But he will make a great anti-burglar watch dog once we moved to Ambergris at the end of the year. Can't wait!

Can I hi-jack this thread for a quick question? How are the rules for dogs in Belize? On the lead everywhere? Just in town? Are there many dogs?

and many are pampered and get HeartGuard with new collars, regular baths and nail clippings. Be fair all populations have some poorly treated animals. If you see one in need take it down to Fort Dog and give them a little donation to help it out. http://sagahumanesociety.org/

From what I have seen while visiting Ambergris many times, is that there are no dog "rules". You will see dogs everywhere and most are very docile and use to being around all the tourists and people. Island dogs - laid back and some in need of some TLC.

I would not have a dog in the states while I worked and would have to leave him/her either in the house or yard all day and then walk him/her at night. Then my experience only, the leashed dogs were much more territorial and protective and they personally frightened me. Not fair to the dog and not workable in my busy lifestyle there. Now, here where the dogs are socialized and run the beach and swim in the sea they get lots of exercise and are not fat and lazy and seldom fight with each other. Some people don't like it, but you can't please everyone. I've had 3 dogs here and now have two that have stolen my heart. You can't go wrong with adopting an island pot licker.

I see every point you make, not sure how I'm going to handle situation. Best case, will not be there to long and will most likely be in the woods, near beach and not living her alone for long, with room to rome. This is a perfect world. What I really need to know is do I get her from the airport to take home off the plane?

That sounds good. Free running docile and happy dogs I have 2 dogs myself and even though I have no intention of bringing them (how horrible such a journey for 2 weeks) I like to know if in theory they would be appreciated where I go. I'm sort of weird with that. I never book into Hotels that don't accept Dogs even if they're nor with me
