Lucas Commission Presents KHMH Report to PM

The Lucas Commission investigating allegations of wrongdoing at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital ended its public hearings on December 18th. And today, four or so months later, the 3-person group presented its report to the Prime Minister at his office in Belmopan. It is 106 pages long and is appended by three volumes of transcripts of the proceedings. According to the government press office, the Prime Minister thanked the Commission for ‘the sterling work.’

So when will we get to see that so called sterling work? The government release says, “that the Report will be made public as soon as possible.”

The Commission was chaired by the Hon. Justice Adolph Lucas of the Supreme Court. The other two members were Ms. Julia Castillo nominated by the Ministry of Health and Mr. Orvin Nicholas nominated by the National Trade Union Congress of Belize.

The Commission of Inquiry was particularly asked to investigate the procedures and processes for the procurement of pharmaceutical, medical and other supplies and equipment at the Hospital during the period 1st January 2007 to 30th June 2009.
