How very very sad. I really like Kainie and she was my contact for my weekly column.
When the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance can bold faced steal, and not be held accountable (and get re-elected), this permeates the entire culture.
I am amazed at the lack of embarrassment that is so prevalent here.
When I was hanging out at Wet Willy's the owner would catch an employee red handed, dismiss them, only to have the same employee come back a week or two later and ask for a job. To this day these people come up to me and treat me like a long lost friend.
Does anyone have any idea about how to change this?

In Britain it is regarded as legally defamatory for a reference to impugn a person's honesty, and it is actionable. Only specific facts already officially in the public arena may be given, such as details of a conviction in court.

So it is ESSENTIAL when receiving a written reference to visit or telephone the person who wrote it. If the previous employer was a large company it's usual for the reference to be written by the personnel department, so you need to establish and then contact the line superior.

I wrote a reference only last week and felt I couldn't include in it everything I thought the prospective employer would wish to know. If I had done the prospective employee would simply have destroyed it and said I was away and hadn't been able to give it. So I made sure to see said prospective employer before the time I knew the interview was to take place. It's noteworthy that he had seen the reference but accepted it at face value and hadn't contacted me.

I have received references for prospective employees in the past, and reading between the lines (which it is essential to do) they weren't worth the paper they were written on.

In the case of my bookkeeper, she had worked for me for two years without the slightest hint of any wrongdoing. She took her opportunity when I was out of town for just one day.

Kainie Manuel will go in the politics for sure.

With her long experience of the public relations and the great practice she has in stealing money she will get for sure some hot job offers from PUP or UDP.

The only thing she need to do first, is the BHC
(The Bribe Handler Certificate)

When getting a referral for a prospective employee the last question I always asked was "Would you re-hire this person."

That's right, Gaz. Probably all within a couple of hours, in fact.

But still "alleged" until she is convicted. She also remains a "suspect" until that point.

I wonder what chance there is of the Lion's Club getting its money back?

I can't believe the person who stole $35.000 got a way with it because she has political connections. You can't fall for that threat. Take action. Years ago we tried to be the nice guy with stealing etc and were only ever told by the courts to terminate and prosecute - being the nice guy doesn't work. A couple of bucks sure but that amount - no way. Gosh are you that rich lol
