Good morning!

Belize is one of our ports to visit on a cruise we are taking in early June. We visited last year and toured the Altun Ha ruins and enjoyed seeing them. This time we would like to vist the Xunantunich ruins as they are much bigger and more impressive, but it runs about $86/person - and we have 5 (total of $430 is pretty steep) - if you book through the cruise line. Does anyone know of any reputable tour outfits that may provide Xunantunich tours. Thanks in advance for your help!

You should be able to negotiate with and hire a van at the port at a much better price. You will also enjoy San Ignacio, the little town right before the ruins.
It's a pretty good ride tho, good highway all the way, so allow about 2 hours for travel each way.

Thanks Sandy - was hoping for some names of reliable tour operators. Know of any off hand?

I did receive an email from someone named Lenny Linda. Does anyone know him? I believe he used to operate a company called Belize Explorer Travel but may have recently split from his partner.

Scott,
I'm sorry, I can't find the info on the van we hired, it's been a couple of years. I'm surprised none of the "locals" on the board have jumped in on this request.
Maybe an online search of tour guides in Belize would allow you to book something in advance.
I still say you can hire a van at the port to take you wherever your group wants to go.

I'm just trying to find someone reliable that others have used and can trust. Thanks for your help! Hearing horror stories about not booking through the cruise lines. It's a long trip to the ruins and I don't want to be left if we should run in to any trouble!

Good luck & have a great trip. If you've never been to Belize, you'll love it, beautiful country, friendly people.

That's actually a very good price for a full day tour inc lunch, entrances, guides, etc - you are driving to the other side of the country. Cruise Ships squeeze due to volume and sending 50 people at a time in a coach. Xunantanich is getting on for a two hour drive from Belize. I have a private Guide, Mark McField, I use regularly for mainland trips who takes a max of six with his own a/c minivan that includes Xununtanich in his tours at US$125 including Belize Zoo. He is a trained archeologist and was Tour Guide of the Year a few Years ago. Quality versus quantity.
