So let me get this straight. The Folks in Tres Cocos want this (Except for 2 residents), The police want this, The Mayoress walked through and liked it, and the ACLBA put a stop work order on it????
I guess the NACNW didn't cut down enough mangroves for it to be approved...
Unfortunately people don't always receive the full story when they read these press releases.
The 2 residents that have the main objections - the 2 that have publicly lodged concerns are the folks whose property is located on either side of the station.
The roadway easement leads to 14 home site lots. It is the ONLY legal roadway access for these properties.
The Mayor is a politician, it is to be expected that she will nod her head and say yes this looks like a good idea, when she knows full well that the final decision is not hers to be made. There is a committee that approves such construction projects and the building authority can't legally approve a structure to be built on a roadway that leads to 14 lots - that would essentially landlock some properties.
A building permit is required to build any structure, wall, fence etc whether it is on private or public property. There isn't any way of getting around that.
Even when we are attempting to do charitable work for the benefit of all we have to follow the rules.
It is unfortunate that the NACNW substation plan hasn't been completely designed and approved prior to an attempt to implement it. The substation idea is good and most certainly will benefit the area, it seems to me that the station simply needs to be placed in an area that is found to be satisfactory by the people that are INVESTED there. And remember, building the station is the easy part of the whole operation - now comes management, maintenance, overhead expenses, manpower concerns etc.
The good news is that there have been offers by local land owners in the vicinity to place the station on their private property. So the NACNW station may become a reality in the very near future.
