Yea what a rant. I've never had a dive boat sunk and no one has ever gotten injured. I'm not damaging the environment with my business. That's a real difficult and abstract analogy Belizeonethebeach.
The barge sunk because the captain overloaded and took off in bad weather. I have no sympathy for the captain and less for the owner.
The barge service is a relatively new concept in supplying the construction sites with materials, didn't exist when i built my house, if that's even relevant, its owned by a gringo that lives in Alaska.
The barges are recklessly going up and down the reef day and night to satisfy the greed of the owner.
Their using an outboard motor to push two 10 ton barges tied together maneuvering dangerously close to the towns natural resource like a Bull in the China shop. This is a disaster in the making.

Its on the front page of the newspaper.
However to be perfectly honest I know more about it than i read there.
This morning is a good example, I was on the water in my boat and passed them making the turn at Mata Rocks hauling a load of sand that had them just inches above the waterline, the same company, Today is a dead calm day but just a sudden squall and that sand does not shed water.(you can't bail water from sand and gravel)it could increase its weight by half from some rain and a few little waves would put it down. PS i know this from my vast experiences on sinking boats :-)
This barge problem is just Greed and an unregulated new situation on the island.

Some gringo dive guy comes to the island because it is a ripe market for diving. Guaranteed to grow and he will be a zillionare.

And Elbert maybe you have never had a dive boat sink (i have) but if my memory serves me correct you did have another non dive boat sink on you LOL but that's another story.
